Application Of Through Bore Slip Rings In Cranes

Through-bore slip rings are widely used in cranes, primarily in the following key areas:

Slewing Platforms and Turntables: This is the most common application. The slip ring is installed at the crane's slewing bearing, facilitating the transmission of power and control signals from the stationary undercarriage (base) to the rotating superstructure (including the cab, boom, etc.). This allows for continuous, unlimited rotation without twisting or damaging the cables. Such slip rings are standard components in equipment like tower cranes, portal cranes, and truck-mounted cranes.

Cable Reels: In equipment such as gantry cranes and port ship-loading/unloading machinery, slip rings are integrated into the center of the cable reel to ensure an uninterrupted power supply while the cable is being wound or unwound.

Booms and Hoisting Mechanisms: Slip rings can also be installed in boom joints or hoisting mechanisms to supply power and signals to actuators (such as grapples or electromagnetic chucks) or sensors located at the tip of the boom.

Offshore and Marine Cranes: Marine environments place extremely rigorous demands on equipment reliability. Thanks to their large bore diameters (with some models featuring inner diameters up to 900mm) and robust integration capabilities, through-bore slip rings are widely used in marine and offshore platform cranes. They often integrate power, signal, and even fiber optic rotary joints (FORJ) into a single unit to transmit high-power electricity, control signals, Ethernet data, and video surveillance feeds.
